The Ak-Sar-Ben
Amateur Radio Club, Inc. of Omaha, Nebraska has provide communications
during many events in the surrounding area on a recurring basis.
These events include the Multiple Sclerosis Society's Super
Cities Walk, The Nebraska State Track Meet, The CROP Walk and
the Cornhusker State Winter Games. The club has also provided
communications to the River City Roundup Parade, Midwest Tandem
Rally and numerous one-time events. Amateur (Ham) Radio is used
extensively for communications at the New York Marathon, the
Rose Bowl Parade, the International Special Olympics and the
Idtarod Dog Sled Races in Alaska.
The Ak-Sar-Ben
Amateur Radio Club, Inc. is made up of nearly 300 federally
licensed radio communicators. These skilled operators are often
called into service during natural and man-made disasters During
these times, traditional methods of public communications often
fail or become unreliable. Amateur Radio operators make up the
majority of severe weather spotters for the National Weather
Service. They work closely with the American Red Cross to provide
reliable communications into and out of disaster areas.
If your nonprofit organization is sponsoring an event, the Ak-Sar-Ben
Amateur Radio Club would like to help. Radio operators stationed
at strategic points along the route of a walk-a-thong, bike
ride, race or parade can relay information more quickly and
reliably than any other form of communication. These service
are provided to organizations like yours free of charge. With
a few weeks to alert the volunteers, amateur radio operators
will tailor their communications network to meet the needs of
your event.
