January
2002
29,000
people in 3 days! Wow! Kidz Explore had a lot of things to do
and a lot of kids to do them. Amateur Radio was part of those
activities. Members of the Ak-Sar-Ben ARC, (KØNSA, WØNSA,
NØHPP, NØTRK, KCØKKF, KCØHMI, WØHXL,
WBØCMC, KAØKCV) spent Friday evening and all day
Saturday and Sunday showing amateur radio to kids and their
parents. Hands on demonstartions of Morse Code, APRS and SSTV
enthalled the visitors to the booth. Those who had their photo
taken with the Kenwood VC-H1 were given a souveneir photo on
diskette along with information about amateur radio. Approximately
180 diskettes were given out to the families. At times the families
were lined up to see what was going on and to get a quick explanation
as to how amateur radio used the technology. All the kids thought
it was cool to learn that we could send images around the world,
without the internet.
