KØUSA Repeater Update Page

3/26/2002 The Icom is Back in service and operating from the Northwest Omaha location.

3/23/2002 -- The repeater committee is currently getting the ICOM ready for installation at the west Omaha location. There have been delays, but should happen soon. Currently the Spec-Comm is at the WOWT Site. With severe weather season approaching it was thought best if the Icom were put into service at the West Omaha location.

2/6/2002 -- There are some minor issues with the trial location that need to be worked out. The ICOM is back in service at the WOWT Location.

2/2/2002 -- Currently the Sec Com is back in service at a trail location. Let us know what you think of the coverage.

The ICOM repeater has been put in place at the WOWT Farnam site. The repeater is operational, there seems to be a slight desensing noticeable on weaker signals at times. This will be investigated the next time a tower crew is on the site.

On October 24, 2001 146.940 again started experiencing interference and was shut down by a control operator. The cause of the interference is being investigated

On October 23, 2001, WBØCMC was able to get to the repeater site. He replaced the capacitor again, and the repeater is currently acting normally and available for use.

On July 16th 2001, the K0USA, 146.940 repeater was removed from the WOWT Crown Point Broadcast site. The ICOM repeater was in need of some minor repairs so the "old" repeater was put in place at the site provided by WOWT at their downtown facilities. Since that day, the old repeater has experienced some problems and the antenna needed replacing. Currently 146.940 is experiencing interference and the problem may be internal or external. A trip to the site is necessary, increase security and available time are causing this to be delayed longer than we would like. As the status of 146.940 changes you can check here for the latest information

Why was the old repeater put in place rather than the ICOM?

The Icom was in need of repairs at the time it was removed from the Crown Point site. It was hoped that the old repeater could reside at the downtown site and remain there in a "hot backup" capacity when another site for 146.940 could be found.

What all has been wrong with 146.940 since its move?

The receive crystal went bad, the antenna was replace, and a power supply capacitor has been replaced. Each time the repeater seemed to improve, only to have other problems crop up. At this point it may be the capacitor failed again, the cavities need fine tuning or the interference may be external.

Would putting the ICOM back in service solve the problems?

Perhaps. And that is an option being considered by the repeater committee. If the problems that we have been experiencing are internal to the old repeater, then yes, but if the problem is the cavities or external interference then the problems will not go away.

What is the estimated time when the repeater will be fixed?

At this time, there is not scheduled time, it is hoped that the repeater committee can get in before the end of the month. The replacement of the old repeater with the ICOM is definitely being considered at that time.
